January

23 January

• Calderon ( United Kingdom) collided with Musketeer ( United Kingdom) in the Crosby Channel. Beached but broke in two, a total loss.^[1]

February

12 February

• Fleetwood trawler Maud ( United Kingdom) drifted ashore at Kynance Cove, Cornwall, when her tow broke.^[2]

March

12 March

• Oceana ( United Kingdom) sank after a collision with Pisagua ( Germany) off Beachy Head.

21 March

• City of Cardiff ( United Kingdom) wrecked at Nanjizal on the west coast of Cornwall.^[3]

April

6 April

• Gunvor ( Norway) wrecked on Pedn-Men-an-Mor rocks, Black Head, The Lizard, Cornwall, crew scrambled to safety.^[4][5]
• Barquentine Mildred ( United Kingdom) struck rocks at Gurnard's Head in dense fog and sank with her sails set. No lives lost.^[4]

15 April

• Titanic ( United Kingdom): Largest ocean liner launched to date, sank during her maiden voyage. Over 1,500 lives lost; 705 survived.

July

• The steamship Transporter ( United Kingdom) of North Shields with ballast from St Nazaire to the Tyne for coal went ashore south of Mousehole in thick fog. The salvage steamer Lady of the Isles hauled her clear and she resumed her journey undamaged.^[6]

August

26 August

• Marnix ( Belgium): Struck uncharted rocks at Umba, Russia () and wrecked.^[7]

September

1 September

• Waterwitch, ( Royal Navy) British Admiralty survey vessel, rammed by the governor's launch while anchored in Singapore Harbour.

28 September

• Kiche Maru, ( Japan) off the coast of Japan in a storm. Over 1,000 dead.

October

• Nicaragua ( United States) wrecked on Padre Island, Texas while traveling the Gulf of Mexico.

November

21 November

• Endurance, ( United Kingdom) Shackleton's ship of the British Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition caught in ice and finally sinks in the Weddell Sea.

December

26 December

• SS Tripolitania ( United Kingdom), was wrecked on Loe Bar, near Porthleven, Cornwall, United Kingdom in 100 mph winds. Nearly all the crew were saved but the ship was a total loss.^[8]
